Kick off time of first match is closer and closer and it is time to go through main favourites for winning World Cup in Brazil. In this first article we will present main favourites based on our expectations and then in in second part we will present some underdogs that could make some surprise.
We went through odds for outcome of World Cup as usually this represent realistic picture of strength of all teams as bookmakers invest lot of time and money in analyses of all teams before they publish odds. Based on bookies odds we could see that main 4 favourites for title are Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Spain in this order. To this group of four I would add team of Italy also as they have really interesting teams and not a lot of pressure and they know how to play tournaments like this.
Brazil is biggest favourite but I would say all 5 teams I mentioned have equal chances. Why? Brazil have home field advantage but also great pressure and it will not be easy for them to play with all this pressure against Argentina, Spain, Germany and Italy. It will be similar to Argentina. They will have great support but also great pressure. Italy advantage is no pressure and this in my opinion equal all those 5 teams. But as they are host let start with Brazil.
Scolari Brazil under pressure
I think if we ask Brazilians 99% will say World title goes to Brazil. And I know they really believe into this that no one can beat them on home championship. For me this I hear only pressure, pressure, pressure.... Goalkeeper spot is weakest point of Brazil team. They have two experienced goalkeepers in Júlio César and Jefferson but neither of them is some extra class goalkeeper right now I would rate them nothing more then average goalkeepers.
Defence is little bit better. They have great duo of central defenders in David Luiz and Thiago Silva and really good wing defenders in Dani Alves and Marcelo. There is also Dante that is good backup for both central defenders but they lack some good backup for both wing defenders.
When we go upper on field we have better and better players and more and more choice for Scolari. For midfield positions they have great players in Fernandinho and Chelsea trio of Willian, Oscar and Ramires. Also they have top world class wingers in Hulk and Naymar. Little problem is that they do not have some great striker for forward position and we could see Hulk to play as striker and someone alse to play as winger beside Neymar. .
At this time I would rate Brazil team power rank as 91/100.
